January 2012

January was an exciting month. I participated in my first CPEDI3* international show, the Wellington Classic Sunshine Challenge. This show was held in conjunction with the World Dressage Masters, at the Jim Brandon Equestrian Center, in Wellington, Florida. This was an amazing experience and very challenging. The challenge came because due the cost, I could not take my horse Chip. Therefore, I had to catch ride a horse I had never ridden before.

By the time all the arrangements came together, I had only 5 hours of training on my horse. Considing this, my trainer in Florida, Laura Rique, and I had to work very hard to bring everything together. All in all it was a wonderful show and a great learning experience. I am looking forward to my next CPEDI3* in California, in March.

Upcoming Events:

Currently, my team and I are busy working on fundraising opportunities. Fund raising is a very important part of a para-equestrian's job. In the US there is no funding availalbe through government sources like there is in other countries. Our major competitors have support from their governments. So all para-equestrian must raise all the monies necessary for training, equipment, travel, and other expenses. This is a big job. So if you would like to help please click on the donate link. Any amout is greatly appreicate.

June 2011

Kurt

Our great friend Kurt Kellenberger is running in the San Diego, Rock 'n' Roll Marathon, June 5, 2011. Uncle Kurt and my Dad have been friend since high school. It means so much to me that he has trained so hard and is running the marathon to get the word out about my quest and raise awareness about the amazing para-equestrians. I thought about sending Chip to help, but I think Uncle Kurt would have to carry him the last half of the run. Not sure Uncle Kurt or Chip would like that.

lsabella

Syd's Paraquest would like to thank Isabella Somers-Strozeski and her family for reading Sydney's story and finding a special way of helping Sydney continue to pursue her quest. Isabella, a fellow rider, is perhaps Sydney's youngest supporter at age 6 but what she is doing for Sydney shows what a big heart she has for others! We are proud to have her on our Team!!.

August 2011

The NAJYRC has come and gone. We had a blast and cannot thank all of the wonderful people who made the event possible enough. It was a great experience to ride in the Rolex Ring in front of all those people. Chip put his best hoof forward and got right in the swing with the music. I actually think he likes riding to music, because his ears perk right up and I can feel him get in the rhythm.

September 2011

I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to travel to Saugreties, New York in September and observe behind the scenes at the NEDA Fall Festival. Many of the para-riders I know will be participating in USEF Para-Equestrian Dressage National Championship. Next year I plan to be one of the riders competing. So this opportunity to get to know the ropes of a large show is much appreciated.
